My Uruguay Vacation Recommendations..

Why Uruguay Feels Different

70% off, during off season! RENT bikes or scooters, so fun! Buildings are set far apart to allow sunshie and wind, love that!

Uruguay off season begins April so when we stayed at AWA hotel was $90 but high season can be closer to $300, and online I found it can be $68.

PUNTE DEL ESTE

The AWA is beautiful and clean and free elegant breakfast and custom coffee runs 8 am to 10:30 am.We rented bikes and the hotel provides free 4 bikes. The neighborhood is fun to walk or bike to see it is the high-end homes however mostly the homes and high rises are dark and empty off season bec the regulars are 30,000 people then during the season it is 500,000 visiting! The hostel my son went to one night was $25. We also stayed at the ENJOY casino hotel which just sold for $150,000,000, April 2026. Must stay at upper floors 7 and above for the remodel or you will be dealing with smelly rooms and broken bathroom then have to argue not to pay as I did. I got three rooms, all had flooded bathtub when you shower, one had broken toilet, awful. Spent 30 min arguing with them I WILL. NOT. PAY. FOR ONE OF THE ROOMS! I had to use lobby toilet 4 am and they didn’t apologize but argued for me to pay. I SHOULD HAVE NOT PAID FOR ALL 3 ROOMS BUT I WAS NICE!

Uruguay is not loud, heals you quietly.
While other destinations overwhelm you, Uruguay slows you down.
That shift alone changes everything.

I look for places that restore energy.
Uruguay does that naturally…offers clean air, open space, and calm people.

If you want a reset, this is the place. Beautiful beaches, buildings separate far to allow sunshine and wind.

Also has a nice mall and laundry will be done for you for cheap. Uber and Cabify are so so so very cheap.

Montevideo: Start With Culture and Calm

Begin your journey in Montevideo.
It feels like a city, yet it breathes like a small town.

Walk along the Rambla.
The ocean air alone feels therapeutic.
Then explore Ciudad Vieja for history and charm.

Additionally, the food here is simple and grounding.
Grass-fed beef is everywhere.
That matters if you care about real nutrition.

Next, go to Punta del Este.
This is where energy rises again.

However, it is not chaotic like Miami.
Instead, it blends luxury with nature. Population around 30,000 off season when I went. Best hotels can be $90. During high season its 500,000 people!

Hostel off season $25.

Visit Playa Brava for strong ocean waves.
Then shift to Playa Mansa for calm water.

Balance matters.
Uruguay seems to understand that deeply.

Also, you will notice something else.
People look relaxed, not rushed.
That alone tells you this place supports wellness.

José Ignacio: True Peace and Simplicity

If you want something deeper, go to José Ignacio.
This is where silence becomes powerful.

There are fewer crowds.
There is more space to think.

You can walk for miles along the beach.
You can sit and do nothing.
That “nothing” is actually everything.

In my view, healing begins here.
When the nervous system slows down, clarity returns.

Colonia del Sacramento: Step Into the Past

Then, visit Colonia del Sacramento.
This town feels like a time portal.

Cobblestone streets slow your pace instantly.
Old buildings remind you that life once moved slower.

Bus trips are easy and air-conditioned. We left Colonia and took the bus to Punta Del Este then flew to Chile.

That lesson matters today.
We have lost that rhythm due to cells.

Take photos, but also pause.
Notice how your body feels when time stretches.

Wine Country: Nourish the Body Naturally

Uruguay’s wine regions are underrated.
Yet, they offer something rare.

The Tannat grape grows strong here.
It is rich in antioxidants.

Visit small vineyards outside Montevideo.
You will meet real farmers, not corporations.

That connection changes how you see food.
It becomes medicine again.

Also, sunlight, fresh air, and slow meals matter.
These are not luxuries.
They are essentials.

Simple Travel Tips That Change Everything

First, go slow.
Do not rush your itinerary.

Second, choose quality over quantity.
Fewer places, deeper experiences.

Third, stay near nature whenever possible.
Your body responds to it immediately.

Finally, listen to your intuition.
If a place feels good, stay longer.

If you use VRBO to rent a home or apartment, the dryer will not work until you find where the water collects and remove it. In America, dryers have vents to the outside. In South America, you gotta find the part that collects moisture or you will go nuts and wonder why you ruin your damp clothing.

Why Uruguay Is Worth It

Uruguay does not try to impress you.
That is exactly why it works.

It restores balance.
It brings you back to yourself.

And in a world full of noise, that is rare.

If you are searching for clarity, go here.
If you are searching for energy, go here.
If you are searching for peace, go here.

Beautiful boutique hotels that can fit 3 in a room and the AWA is just the best with breakfast included. The owner also owns the best reataurant in town, ON THE SAND!
